Bill James on Freakonomics

In case you somehow missed it, Bill James did Q&A on the Freakonomics blog  the other day.

Good stuff. Though he does get a little defensive, at times becoming rather cryptic and kind of ... well ... jerky.

Though I'd guess Galileo also had a pretty big chip on his shoulder.

Like I said, there's a bunch

Like I said, there's a bunch of great remarks from James. But here's the best piece of commentary on the interview. From Squawking Baseball:

Q: Is clutch hitting a repeatable/retain-able skill?

A: I don’t know.

This is technically the right answer, I guess. But my response would be, “Why should I have to prove a negative?” There is no objective evidence that “clutch hitters” exist. If you want to poke holes and say that there is no conclusive evidence that they don’t exist, I would refer you to my friends Big Foot, the Boogie Man, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
